This prawn pulao is a welcome change from other meat pulao & biriyani, prepared all throughout India in varying styles & tastes. It’s easy to prepare but tastes awesome, try this for your guests & family.
Ingredients for Prawn Pulao Recipe
For the prawn masala
- Prawn – 500 gms (de-shelled, de-veined & cleaned)
- Onion – 2 ( 1 chopped )
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Chili powder – ½ tsp
- Red chili flakes – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1tsp
- Salt to taste
- Lemon juice – juice of ½ a lemon
- Thick coconut milk – ½ cup
- Cashew paste/powder – 1 tbsp
- Pudina & coriander leaves – ½ cup (chopped)
- Tomato puree – 2 tsp
For the rice
- Rice – 3 cups
- Rose water – a few drops
- Bay leaf – 1
- Cardamom – 3
- Cloves – 3
- Cinnamon – 1″ stick
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 1 tsp
Procedure for preparing Prawn Pulao
Soak the rice, meanwhile prepare prawn masala.
Wash de-shell & de-vein the prawn. Marinate the prawn with lime juice & Turmeric powder for 15-20 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan, add onions, saute the onions till it turns soft. To this add all the other ingredients except prawn, cashew powder and coconut milk, saute till the masala gets cooked. Now add the marinated prawns, mix well and add half a cup water and cook the prawns. When the prawns are cooked add cashew paste and mix well. Now, add coconut milk and do not let it boil remove instantly from fire. Lastly add chopped coriander & pudina leaves and check seasoning.
Heat water in a vessel add enough salt add 1tsp oil to it along with bay leaves, cardamom, cinnamon & cloves. Once the water gets boiled add the soaked rice, cook the rice till it is one third cooked and immediately drain the rice.
Now, mix the previously prepared prawn masala with the rice and add rose water.
