Chicken Dal is not a traditional recipe but mixture of Tadka Dal and Chicken. Dal is not liked by kids but if chicken in a dal it becomes favorite of kids as well.
Ingredients for preparing Chicken Tadka Dal
- Arhar dal – 250 gm
- Chicken – 400 gm
- Tomato – 2 pieces (chopped)
- Green chillies – 2 pieces (slit)
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Whole cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – 4 tbsp
- Water – as required
- Onion – 4 pieces (chopped)
- Garlic clove – 2 pieces (chopped)
- Coriander leaves – for garnishing
Procedure for preparing Chicken Tadka Dal
Wash dal and pressure cook it with salt, water, 1/4 tsp of turmeric, 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste and 1 tbsp of oil till dal tenders. Now on low heat, let the dal cook till it is smashed properly. Keep aside.
Now in a wok, heat 2 tbsp of oil, add cumin seeds, let it splutter, add 3 pieces of chopped onion, saute it till it become golden brown. Now add chicken saute it for 5 minutes. Add 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste, salt, tomatoes, red chilly powder, coriander powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric and water, saute it till oil releases and chicken gets tender.
In big vessel mix both cooked dal and chicken and heat it till both are mixed.
For Tadka
In a wok heat remaining 1 tbsp of oil, onion and garlic clove, saute it till both becomes golden brown. Add green chillies and saute again.
Add tadka in above mentioned chicken dal.
Garnish with coriander chopped and serve with steamed rice.
