Mutton Paya (Trotters) Recipe

Mutton Paya (Trotters) Recipe

Mutton Paya is one of the those dishes which is simple to cook but takes slightly more time to tender and this gives the impression that it is something very difficult to cook.

Ingredients for preparing Paya

  • Mutton Paya(Lamb trotters) – 1/2 kg
  • Onion – 5 pieces (paste)
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Cinnamon – 1 inch
  • Clove – 2 pieces
  • Whole pepper – 6-7 pieces
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 4 tbsp
  • Water – as required
  • Coriander leaves – for garnishing

Procedure for preparing Paya

In pressure cooker put all the ingredients except coriander leaves and pressure cook up to 3 whistles, then in a low flame cook till mutton tenders. Normally it takes 40 to 45 minutes to tender.

Remove from heat and check whether gravy is thick, if not heat again on high flame till gravy becomes thick.

Take out in a serving bowl and garnish with and coriander leaves. Serve with bread, nan or paratha.
