Gatte ki kadhi is a North Indian cuisine and is easily prepared.It is a traditional dish of the marwaris. It is served hot with rice . It is prepared with gram flour and and the kadhi is made from the yoghurt.
Ingredients for the Gatte
- Gram flour – 200 gms
- Chilli powder – 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¾tsp
- Oil – 3 tbsp
- Asafoetida – a pinch
- Water – as per requirement to knead
Procedure for preparing the Gatte
Mix together the gram flour, chilli powder, and turmeric powder,oil, salt and asafoetida with a little water to knead into a dough.
Now divide the dough into 4 portions and shape it into 5 inch long rolls.
Bring 1 litre water to boil in a saucepan and add the rolls over low heat. Allow it to to boil for 6-7 minutes. Remove from heat and and let it cool. Keep aside the boiled water in a different container.
Cut the rolls into smaller pieces of about 1½ inches.
Ingredients for the Kadhi
- Ghee – 2 tbsp
- cumin seeds – 2 tsp
- coriander seeds– 2½ tsp
- Turmeric powder – ¾ tsp
- chilli powder – 2 tsp
- Yoghurt – 150 ml
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp (chopped)
- salt to taste
Procedure for preparing the Kadhi
Heat the ghee in a pan and temper the cumin seeds, coriander seeds and the turmeric and chilli powder. Add salt as per taste.
Add the yoghurt and allow to cook for 2 minutes. Add the gatte, half the chopped coriander leaves and adjust consistency with water. Allow to boil and cook for 5 minutes. Remove from fire..
Garnish with the remiani9ng coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
