Coconut Ada Recipe

By Asha

Ada is a very famous dish of South India. In Kerala ada is made with rice powder and in Tamil nadu it is made by adding maida to the rice powder. In this recipe the ada has a coconut- jaggery filling along with a flavour of cardamom. It is easy to make and tastes fantastic.

Ingredients for Coconut Ada Recipe

  • Rice powder – 300 gms
  • Coconut – 1 (scraped)
  • Gur(jaggery) – 500 gms
  • Cardamom – 6-7(powdered)
  • Salt – to taste
  • Ghee(clarified butter) – 1 tsp
  • Banana leaves
  • Water to knead

Procedure for preparing Coconut Ada

Boil some water in a pan and add salt and ghee to it and bring to boil. Now pour this to the rice powder little by little and knead into a soft dough. Keep aside.

In a pan melt the jaggery and then add the scraped coconut and cardamom powder to it and mix well and let it cook till it becomes dry.

Now take banana leaves and tear them into small pieces of about notebook size. Then keep a ball of rice dough and with the hand spread it out in a circle. Then keep a big spoonful of the coconut jaggery mix and then fold the leaf in half and press the sides of the dough so that it is sealed properly. Now steam this for about 10-15 minutes and ada is ready to be eaten.
