Coconut Chutney Recipe

Coconut chutney is a famous South Indian cuisine prepared with scraped coconut and are best teamed with idlis, doasa and uttappams.

Ingredients for Coconut chutney

  • Coconut (scraped) – 2 cups
  • Pottu kadala (roasted chana dal) – handful(optional)
  • Green chillies – 1
  • Ginger – 1 small piece
  • Mustard – 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – a few
  • Red chilli – 1-2 (broken into halves)
  • Salt to taste

Procedure for preparing Coconut chutney

Grind the roasted chana dal , green chillies, salt and ginger with a little bit of water. once it becomes a smooth paste to this add the coconut and again water as per requirement and grind it to a paste. Pour this into a serving dish and keep aside

Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds in it. after the mustard seeds are spluttered add the curry leaves and red chillies and immediately pour it over the coconut chutney.

It is best teamed with idlis, dosas or uttapams.
