Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Dessert mousses are typically made from egg and cream, usually in combination with other flavors such as chocolate or puréed fruit. It can range from light and fluffy to creamy and thick, depending on preparation techniques. This recipe includes the chocolate flavor in a Mousse and is a fantastic way to end your meal.

Ingredients for Chocolate Mousse Recipe

  • Water – 2 cups
  • Custard powder – 6 tbsp
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Cream – 4 heaped tbsp
  • Gelatin – 3 tsp sprinkled over ½ cup water
  • Egg whites – 2(optional)

For Decoration

  • Grated Chocolate – 1 tbsp
  • Whipped cream – 2-3 tbsp
  • Chocolate biscuits or cookies – a few

Procedure for preparing Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Mix custard powder in 1 cup of water in a heavy bottom sauce pan till it dissolves completely and add the remaining 1 cup water and sugar to it. Put this on medium flame, stirring continuously and bringing to a boil. Cook for 3-4 minutes till a sauce is ready. Remove from fire.

Break the chocolate into small pieces and add to the hot custard. Stir continuously till the chocolate dissolves.

Put ½ cup water in a sauce pan and sprinkle gelatin on the water. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Keep on very low heat and stir continuously for 2 minutes. Do not let it come to a boil.

Now mix this hot gelatin solution with the chocolate mixture. Keep the chocolate mixture aside for 15-20 minutes to cool down completely but keep stirring in between.

When the chocolate mix cools down, beat cream till slightly thick and fluffy and can stand in soft peaks.Fold the whipped cream into the cool chocolate mis slowly and uniformly.

If you are not using eggs then the mousse is ready to be served but if you are using eggs then beat the egg whites and then fold this in to the prepared chocolate mix.

Transfer the mousse into serving glass and set it in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours or till it sets. You can decorate it with whipped cream, grated chocolate and a chocolate cookie or biscuit.
