Simple Dal Recipe

Masoor dal is a very simple and staple dish of any Bengali family, being very rich in protein makes it a very healthy food.

Ingredients for Simple Dal Recipe

  • Masoor dal/Indian lentil – 2 cups
  • Onion – 1 (sliced)
  • Green peas – ½ cup (boiled)
  • Cumin seeds – 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Red chillie powder – ½ tsp
  • Tomato – 1 (cut in 4 pieces)
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – as required
  • Coriander leaves – for garnishing

Procedure for preparing Simple Dal Recipe

Wash the dal and pressure cook it with required water and salt up to approximately 3 whistles.

Keep aside the boiled dal and then heat oil in a pan. Put the cumin seeds into the heated oil and let it splutter, now add the onions and sauté till the onion turns pinkish.

Now add the turmeric powder and chillie powder and sauté for 2 minutes till the masala is cooked. Now add the boiled green peas and tomatoes and sauté again for 2 minutes.

Now add the boiled dal to this and  mix well. Let it come to a boil.

Check seasoning and add more water if required. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
