Begun Bhaja Recipe

Begun bhaja or fried brinjal is a very common dish in Bengali cuisine and is extremely easy to prepare.Bhaja literally means ‘deep-fried’; most vegetables are good candidates but begun (aubergines), kumro (pumpkins), or alu (potatoes) like French fries, or shredded and fried, uchhe, potol are common.

Serves – 4 persons

Ingredients for Begun Bhaja Recipe

  • Brinjal/aubergine/begun – 1 big
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil/mustard oil – for deep frying the brinjal

Procedure for preparing Begun Bhaja Recipe

Wash the brinjal and then cut the brinjal in round pieces(it shouldn’t be very thin or very thick).

Rub the brinjal pieces with turmeric and salt .

Heat oil in a pan/kadhai and then deep fry each of the brinjal pieces.

Serve hot with rice, khichdi or even rotis.
