Tok Dal is a famous cuisine of Eastern India where the dal is prepared with green mango to give it a sour/khatta taste. The lentil used is masoor dal and it is cooked with green mango and it tastes great with steaming hot rice.
Ingredients for Tok Dal Recipe
- Green Mango – 1 small (peeled and cut in long pieces)
- Masoor dal – 1½ cups
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Onion – ½ (sliced)
- Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Dry red Chillies – 2 (broken in halves)
- Oil – 1 tsp
Procedure for preparing Tok Dal Recipe
Wash and boil the masoor dal/lentil with required water and salt and when the lentil is half cooked add the mango pieces along with it and cook till the green mango becomes tender.
In a pan heat oil and add cumin seeds. and allow it to splutter. To this add dry red chillies, the onion slices and sautÃ© for 2 minutes. Now add turmeric powder and again sautÃ© for 2minutes. Now add the boiled lentil and green mango and add more water if required to get the required consistency and bring to boil. Check seasoning.
Serve hot with steamed rice.
