Burmese Khow Suey was a dish that I first tasted at a friends place. Our friend Madhurima made this dish for us when we visited her and it was fabulous. My husband really liked it so did my kid so I tried this at home and it turned out really well. It is a Burmese dish which has noodles topped up with chicken in coconut milk gravy and garnished with lime, boiled eggs, spring onions etc.
Ingredients for Khow Suey Recipe
- Boneless chicken (cut into small pieces)- 1 kg
- Onions (finely chopped) – 5-6
- Ginger -1″
- Garlic – 10 cloves
- Besan (gram flour) – 1 tbsp
- Coconut milk – 2 cups (thick )
- Turmeric– 1 pinch
- Chilli powder – ¼ tsp
- Salt – to taste
For Garnishing
- Spring onions (chopped)
- Onions – sliced and deep fried
- Coriander leaves – chopped
- Green chillies – chopped
- Boiled egg – cut in wedges
- Spaghetti noodles/ egg noodles (boiled)
- Soya sauce
- Lime cut into quarters
Procedure for preparing Khow Suey Recipe
Blend the ginger and garlic and make a coarse paste and keep aside.
Fry the onions till transparent and add the ginger – garlic paste, saute for 3-4 minutes.
To this add the chicken pieces and saute for 2 minutes.
Now add turmeric and chilli powder. Saute till the chicken pieces are half cooked and mixed well with the masala.
Add besan to this and mix well.
While adding coconut milk always add an equal quantity of water, so in this case add the 2 cups of thick coconut milk and 4 cups of water along with some salt to it and mix well. Let the chicken cook well and allow the gravy to thicken.
Once the gravy is done Take a bowl and add some noodles and then top it with the gravy in a generous amount and then garnish with each of the garnishing ingredients.
