Salli Botti is an out and out Parsi dish prepared with mutton chunks cooked in tomato and onion gravy and garnished with crispy deep-fried potatoes.
Ingredients for Salli Botti Recipe
- Mutton – ½ kg (cubed)
- Onions – 3 medium (chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Tomatoes – 2 medium(chopped)
- Green chillies – 2(chopped)
- Chili powder – ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Jaggery – 1½ tsp
- Vinegar – 1½ tsp
- Ghee – ½ tbsp
- Coriander leaves(chopped) for garnishing
- OIl – 200 ml
- Potatoes, julliened
Procedure for preparing Salli Boti Recipe
Heat ghee in a pan and add onions and sauté till golden brown. To this add the ginger- garlic paste and sauté for a while. Now add the chilli powder and turmeric powder and sauté for another minute.
Add the mutton to the above cooked spices and fry till golden brown. Now add the tomatoes, green chillies, salt and a little water and let the mutton cook till it is almost done.
Now add jaggery and vinegar and cook until the mutton is fully done and becomes tender. Check seasoning and more salt if required. Remove from heat and garnish with coriander leaves and deep fried potato strips.
Note: To make the potato strips soak the potato strips in cold water with a little bit of salt for a few minutes. Drain and deep fry in hot oil till crispy
