Easy Mutton Curry Recipe

Mutton curry is a delicious cuisine in India blended in a lot of spices. The recipe that follows is an easy recipe that my mother used to make and is also spicy.

Ingredients for Mutton Curry

  • Mutton – 1 kg
  • Garlic – 10 flakes
  • Ginger – 1 inch
  • Onion – 2 large
  • Potato (optional) – 1 large (boiled and cut into halves)
  • Tomato – 2 medium (pureed)
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder – 2 tbsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tbsp
  • Garam masala – 2 tsp
  • tej patta (bay leaf) – 2
  • Coriander leaves – for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil
  • Water

Procedure for preparing Mutton Curry

Wash and clean the mutton . Now marinate it with turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder and salt for half an hour.

Pressure cook the mutton with sufficient water for 6-7 whistles. If you have a few mutton lever pieces as well then after the mutton is done add the liver pieces and again pressure cook to 1 more whistle.

Make a paste of garlic, ginger and onion. In a deep frying pan heat a little oil and add tej patta and onion-garlic-ginger paste and sauté for a while till the mix turns pinkish.

To this add potatoes if you want and also add tomato puree. Now add the cooked mutton and cook till the gravy is thick enough and then add the garam masala powder. Add more salt if required. Your mutton curry is ready to be served garnished with coriander leaves.
