Onion Coconut Chutney Recipe

Coconut chutney is a South Indian spicy chutney-side-dish and condiment. This is a coconut stew mixed with other species and served with Idli, Dosa. This recipe includes onion along with coconut to prepare a delicious dip for Idli, Dosa, Uttappam etc.

Ingredients for Onion Coconut Chutney

  • Coconut – ½ (scraped)
  • Onion shallots – 2(slit)
  • Chilli powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – as required
  • Mustard seeds– 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves – a few
  • Dry Red chillies – 2(broken into halves)
  • Oil – 1 tsp

Procedure for preparing Onion Coconut Chutney

In a mixer grinder add the scraped coconut, salt, chilli powder, a little water and onion shallots and make a smooth paste. Now in a pan heat 1 tsp oil and add mustard seeds and let it splutter then add curry leaves and dry red chillies.

Now add the coconut paste. Mix well. Add more water if required . Check seasoning and consistency of the chutney. Remove from heat.

It is best served with Idlis, Dosa, Masala Dosa, Uttapam and Onion Rava Dosa.
