Peyaj Posto Recipe

Peyaj posto / Onion in Poppy seeds paste is a delicious cuisine of Eastern India. Poppy seeds are used around the world in various cuisines. In India, Iran and Turkey poppy seeds are known as khus-khus and is considered highly nutritious, mostly added in dough while baking bread, and recommended for pregnant women and new mothers.

Ingredients for Peyaj Posto Recipe

  • Onions – 4 large (chopped length wise)
  • Posto (poppy seeds) – ¾ cup
  • Mustard oil – 4 -5  tbsp
  • Green chillies – 2 (slit)
  • Salt – as per taste

Procedure for preparing Peyaj Posto

Make a paste of poppy seeds, salt and green chillies and keep aside. In a pan heat 3 tbsp mustard oil and fry the onions till brown .

To this add the posto- green chillies paste and mix well saute for 2 minutes and then just before removing from fire add the remaining mustard oil on top of it and remove from heat immediately.

Serve it hot with steamed rice.
